Bio, new art projects and exhibitions:
As part of her research & project "Flying Roots" Mila is working with recycling materials incorporating them into painting and giving them a third dimension. Work in a progress:
"I`m endlessly fascinated by the human condition and at the same time very much disturbed by it. My interest lies within the concept of identity, state of mind, environmental and communication issues .
"I am also striving to find another form of interaction with a viewer using mixed media art, by creating conversational, interactive multidiscipline art or art rooms where viewers can participate in the creative process through contributing their own elements and ideas.
Mila was born in Kharkiv, Ukraine, where she studied graphic design at the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts (KSADA). In Jan 2000 she moved to Moscow, where she developed her practice under the influence of local artists, graduates of the Surikov and Stroganov institutes. During her twelve years in Moscow, Mila established herself as a professional portrait artist. She exhibited widely, became a member of several art societies, and received a number of awards.
Mila moved to the UK in Dec 2012. Together with her husband she opened an Art & Coffee House in York. The new space functioned both as a cafe and a gallery and became an important meeting point for local artists and the public. In York Mila presented two projects: "First Impressions, a series of land and cityscapes; and a video-art portrait project entitled "Good Citizens of the Small Apple-York - Conversations." Currently Mila is working on a project called ”Flying Roots". Drawing on her own personal experience and observations, the project reflects on globalization, migration and demographics. She has gone beyond the limiting two-dimensional nature of the traditional image. She has increased the tactility and physicality of her works by incorporating real objects and has begun to expand the image into three dimensions. Alternative disciplines such as dance, 3D printing, photography, installations have begun to find a place in her work. In an attempt to explore and utilise more interactive art mediums, her life-long passion to photography is now taking a shape in the New York Institute of Photography.
